Burmese Temple Ceremony
When a new temple opens in Myanmar, residents hold a celebration for the opening and it usually includes a parade. On our trip to Inle Lake we were lucky enough to arrive at Nyaungshwe on the north end of the lake right as one of these parades was getting underway.

Inle Lake Lotus-weaving Workshop
There isn’t much industry in Inle Lake other than tourism, so much of the population of the lake is engaged in handicrafts of some sort that contribute to the area’s tourism industry. The lotus-weaving workshop is where old women like the two below spin lotus fibers into silk-like threads to be woven into beautiful textiles. Before this trip I was unaware that it was even possible to weave lotus into a fabric. The sight of these old women spinning lotus fibers into threads on their intricate series of hand-cranked wheels was mesmerizing.
